Review: Theodent Toothpaste
Tuesday 10 November 2015
Fluoride is an ingredient I actively have tried to avoid since I began my wellness journey after being diagnosed with a chronic illness. The trouble was that I didn't believe in the effectiveness of natural toothpastes; they either still contained SLS, or fluoride, contained baking soda and other abrasive ingredients which can weaken enamel over time, or weren't effective. I first discovered Theodent and was so excited to try it, then realised that shipping to Australia was too exorbitant, and put it to the back of my mind. Then recently, iHerb began stocking it, and I pounced, adding it to my next order.
The reason I was so keen to try Theodent was due to an ingredient called Rennou; a non-toxic and revolutionary alternative to Fluoride. Rennou is actually an extract found in chocolate (!), and is the star ingredient in all Theodent toothpastes. Rennou helps strengthen the enamel surface of teeth, and has been found to stimulate the growth of enamel, and studies show it to be more effective than fluoride when it comes to remineralisation.
The first time I used the paste, I felt that I could feel it working on my teeth already (whether placebo or not). Within a week I could notice my teeth were less sensitive. Since cutting sugar out of my diet, I have noticed a great decline in plaque when I wake up in the morning, however after adding this toothpaste into my routine I have noticed even less visible plaque of a morning; to the point where it is almost non-existent.
However, the proof is in the pudding, as they say - right? I had a dentist appointment this week and the dentist was really happy with the condition of my teeth and said that my gums were really healthy and my teeth were naturally very white. There also was very little to be done during my teeth cleaning, which is a definite plus!
I will continue to use this toothpaste as long as it is available and my budget allows it. I have just purchased a second tube, so I don't run out!
