Review: The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer vs High-Spreadability Fluid Primer

I haven't had the best success with primers in the past (I never noticed them doing anything), so when I heard all the rave reviews about the The Ordinary Primers, I was highly sceptical. I mean, primers that actually help my makeup stay on, and at an affordable price, even in Australia?! Keep reading to find out the difference between these primers, and see if they worked for me.

If you haven't heard about The Ordinary, you may have been living under a rock. The Ordinary are one of the many brands under the umbrella company DECEIM, and are all about 'clinical formulations with integrity'. They offer effective and familiar skincare technologies at affordable prices, contain no nasties, and are cruelty free and vegan. The Ordinary are on top of their game right now as one of the most talked about skincare brands in the world.

To make things more exciting, The Ordinary have also recently released two foundations which have created hype all around the globe, that I can't wait to get my hands on. But, in the meantime, I thought I would share my thoughts on the two much loved primers from The Ordinary.

High-Spreadability Fluid Primer

What they say:
The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer is a lightweight serum-like formula that increases the spreadability of subsequent complexion makeup to help avoid the unnatural and uneven accumulation of pigments especially around the eyes and on dry skin. Ideal for application before concealing, or applying full coverage foundation for a more natural look. The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer also acts as a light, non-oily surface hydrator for a natural dewy look.

What I say:
This primer comes in a convenient glass dropper bottle, but I find it a tad hard sometimes to suck up the thick liquid with the pipette. Apart from that though, the formula feels nice on my dry skin and I find it smoothes onto the skin so easily, leaving my skin with a nice silicone-y slip to it. It blurs my fine lines and pores, and I find my makeup applies so easily and evenly over the top of this. This primer is ideal for my dry skin as although it gives a neutral finish (neither dewy nor matte), it prevents my makeup from collecting in any dry patches or fine lines. This primer provides a smooth canvas for makeup, and prevents my makeup from fading, moving, creasing or going patchy throughout the whole day.

High-Adherence Silicone Primer

What they say:
Ideal to use alone for a naturally perfected finish, or under makeup to improve longevity, The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer uses advanced adaptive silicones to act as a matte, hydrating, blurring primer for makeup that looks higher in definition and adheres for longer.
The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer can also be used alone as a non-greasy hydrator that reduces the looks of pores and of imperfections.

What I say:
This primer comes in a sleek, plastic tube that is perfect for travel. It is a white, gel cream formula, not unlike a silicone moisturiser, that dries down almost instantly on the skin. This primer is similar to the other primer in that it leaves lines and pores blurred, and leaves the skin silky to the touch, albeit not quite as silky as the former.
I can't comment on its mattifying qualities as I used this with my foundations which give a dewy finish, however I can say that it is the first mattifying primer I have tried on my dry skin that hasn't made my skin feel like it was about to crack off. I also feel that this primer gives my makeup a bit more staying power than the other primer.

Overall, I feel that drier skin types would appreciate the results of the High-Spreadability Fluid Primer more as it felt the most comfortable on my skin, while oilier types would love the mattifying effects of the High-Adherence Silicone Primer. Normal skin types, take your pick! The High-Adherence Silicone Primer is better for travelling due to its plastic packaging, but the High-Spreadability Fluid Primer comes in luxe looking frosted glass.

Honestly, I feel that both primers are amazing and I will definitely continue to use both. I love that they are affordable ($8.80 and $13.90 AUD each!), and work so well! I have already stocked up on more of the High Spreadability Primer because I find myself using that one just a tad more.

The Ordinary are available from any good retailers! I got mine from Adore Beauty, because they offer free shipping!
