Review: Marc Jacobs Shameless Foundation

Marc Jacobs is a luxe makeup brand that has become increasingly popular amongst beauty bloggers over the years, so when they released the new Shameless foundation, there was a lot of hype. And as the reviews started rolling in, there were a lot of mixed opinions and quite a few negative experiences. I was desperate to try it and see how it would act on my skin, and gleefully received a PR package containing three shades.
The new Marc Jacobs Shameless foundation is a product I have been testing over the past month or so, and collecting my full thoughts on to give you a comprehensive review. Keep reading to hear my thoughts.

Marc Jacobs claims that Shameless is 'an innovative, medium, buildable foundation with 24 hour wear, and first to market, flashback free SPF 25 for a youthful look. It is suitable for all skin types.

I was super excited when Marc Jacobs released this foundation, because it seemed much more suited to my skin type than the Remarcable foundation currently in their permanent collection. I have super super dry skin, and hoped that this would give me the fresh, light coverage I desired.

To apply, I squeeze a small amount out, apply to my face with a finger, and blend out with a makeup sponge. I find a sponge is the best way to blend this foundation, as brushes or fingers leave it looking streaky.

I find the shade Fair R150 to be the perfect shade match for my super fair skin. The foundation has a liquidy serum consistency, and sets quickly so powdering isn't necessary (I rarely powder anyway).

As for coverage, I find this gives a light coverage (buildable to medium), and a satin matte finish. I find it to emphasise any dry patches on my skin, and seem to sit on top of my skin initially. I can see you thinking, 'well that doesn't sound promising!'. However, I have found a way to get this foundation to look quite quite flawless on my skin. For this foundation (and any other other drying foundations I own), I mix in a couple of drops of oil to the foundation on the back of my hand, and then apply. It just helps the makeup melt into the skin and look much more flawless. I recommend trying this with your foundation if you have dry skin. I also spray my face with Fix + when I have applied my foundation and concealer, and I find it helps everything melt into the skin beautifully!

I find this foundation to last a full day on me without caking up or disappearing. It feels lightweight on my skin and doesn't oxidise. It doesn't have a noticeable fragrance, which I love! It also has an actual expiry date printed on the back of the bottle, which I appreciate, as most foundations do not have this! The squeezy bottle makes this the perfect foundation to travel with, and I think it is super cute as well.

So do I recommend this foundation for dry skin? To be honest, there are better foundations for dry skin. You can make this one work, but I know that some people do not like the idea of purchasing a high end foundation and having to complete extra steps to make it work on their skin. Which is totally understandable. I think this foundation is better suited to those with more oilier skin types.

The Marc Jacobs Shameless foundation is a foundation that I reach for when I am wanting light, natural coverage, and don't mind the extra steps (adding oil and Fix +) it takes to make it look beautiful on my skin. I would repurchase it.

So there you have it. Not a perfect foundation for me, but definitely not a bad one.
