I was surprised and intrigued when I heard about Ava of Earthwise Beauty's newest creation; Farizad's Veil. Farizad's Veil is a powdered zinc-based sunscreen; a type of sunscreen I have not experienced before. I was super excited to see how my skin would fair with this powder as I have extremely dry and acne-prone skin, and have not yet found a physical based sunscreen I can wear on a daily basis without it drying me out and/or clogging my pores. I have been testing this sunscreen out for long enough now to know how it performs and wanted to share my thoughts.
Farizad's Veil has been designed as a product that you can mix into your favourite facial oil, moisturiser or BB cream to give an SPF content. It is an alternative to typical physical sunscreens which tend to feel heavy, greasy, or clog pores.
Farizad's Veil contains high grade, minimally processed non-nano and uncoated zinc oxide to provide broad spectrum UV protection. Zinc oxide also has anti-acne and anti-inflammatory properties. Farizad's Veil also contains pure powdered aloe leaves to soften the stark white colour of the zinc oxide while moisturising, soothing, cooling, and repairing.
The scent of this powder comes from a range of essential oils including Moroccan Roses, precious and rare pink Indian champaca flower (with a honey element), rose geranium, Madagascar geranium leaves, and a delicate frankincense from Oman that has an orange undertone and is not the masculine type yet with amber-like resin component. It is floral and feminine, and smells lovely.
Active ingredient: non-nano uncoated zinc oxide 94% (Canada); others: aloe barbadensis leaf powder*, organic hexane-free Rosa centifolia absolute (Morocco), wildcrafted hexane-free pink champaca absolute (India), organic Pelargonium graveolens (geranium bourbon) oil, Pelargonium roseum (rose geranium) oil*, wildcrafted frankincense oil (Oman). *Certified organic.

'The fragrance, product name, and the label design were inspired by Farizad, a heroine from Arabian Nights. Determined, a believer in destiny and in her intuition's voice, Farizad had the smile of the rose and cried real pearls!'. I love it!
My favourite way of using Farizad's Veil is with a hydrating moisturiser. I find that a deeply hydrating base helps counteract the natural drying effect that zinc has on skin. Oily and normal types may prefer an oil to create a lighter product. I simply sprinkle 1/16 to 1/8 of a teaspoon of product into a small mixing bowl or my palm, then add in my moisturiser until I get the consistency I desire.
As for the SPF content you can expect when you mix the powder into your favourite lotions and potions, Ava had this to say on her website:
"A barely whitened skin will give an SPF of 20-25; a skin whitened by one shade SPF 30-35, slightly more whitened SPF 50: but these numbers are approximate since it all depends how much powder you use and how sensitive your skin is to the sun's rays."
I thought I would also share how this powder mixes into different mediums. As you can see below the finished product varies greatly depending on what you use. The powder mixed with oil creates a milky lotion consistency. I used a light coloured oil in the photo but darker coloured oils ie: sea buckthorn oil will give an even more pleasing result. The powder mixed with moisturiser gives a result similar to a traditional sunscreen but without the clogging ingredients. Finally, the powder mixed with a tinted moisturiser will create a lighter, slightly thicker version of your tinted moisturiser.

I have been loving this powder as it allows me to use my favourite hydrating moisturisers while also providing sun protection. I feel like this product will encourage more people to use sunscreen as it provides a much more pleasurable consistency than typical sunscreens. This sifter jar should also last a long time. I would recommend it to anybody that loves their current facial routine but would like to add some SPF protection into it.

ReplyDeleteHi! For darker skin tones, I would recommend mixing with either foundation or bronzer to cancel out the white cast as much as possible. If using with a clear or white product you are going to notice a white cast from the zinc oxide. Hope that helps! x
