Review and Swatches: NYX Beauty School Drop Out Back to Basics Palette + 101 Palettes
Wednesday 22 March 2017
NYX's newly released (and exclusive to Priceline) palettes include everything you need to create a variety of looks. I have really been enjoying the quality and colour of the shades included in this collection, so I thought I should share my thoughts and some swatches with you guys!
Beauty School Drop Out Back to Basics Palette
Master the ABC’s of makeup artistry with our Back to Basics collection. Featuring 35 creamy and highly pigmented eyeshadows, this palette brings together essential neutrals in matte, metallic and shimmery finishes. Sculpt the natural curves of your complexion with the contouring powders and brighten up your best features with a swipe of blush or illuminator. Experiment with taking any look from natural to bold using these rich, modern tones – practice makes perfect!
If you have foundation, and this palette, you have literally everything you need to create a complete makeup look. This palette contains 35 (!) eyeshadows, 3 blushes, 2 contour shades, and 2 highlight shades and can be used to create a natural everyday look, or a more amped up, intense look. The face shades included in this palette would be best suited to light/medium skin, and show up well on my pale (read: WHITE AS PAPER) face.
The blushes give a beautiful flush to cheeks. They are the type of blush that is buildable, which is my preference, as I hate lightly dipping into a blush and coming out looking like a clown. Two are matte, while one is shimmery.
The highlights are gorgeous and are natural, but also buildable (hello, Fix +!). These are great for those new to highlighters as they are aren't blinding when applied on their own, but fellow highlighter junkies like me will be still be able to get a strong glow when used with something like Fix +.
The two completely matte contour shades included in this palette are perfect on my pale skin. They don't look patchy or muddy, and blend easily.
The colour of the eyeshadows makes this palette completely versatile, as you can make so so many different eye looks. The 35 eyeshadows are a mixture of mattes and shimmers, and are mostly warm, with a few cool tones included. From oranges/reds, to blues to pink, to gorgeous browns, there is something in this palette for all eyeshadow junkies.
The quality of the eyeshadows in this palette is surprisingly good for a drugstore palette. The shadows have a bit of kick up, but are pretty pigmented, especially the shimmer shades. They blend easily, and look gorgeous on the lids. Some shades look a tad patchy when swatched on my arm, but don't look patchy on the lids.
RRP $49.95
