Review: Michael Todd Sonicblend Makeup Brush

There is nothing that makes me geek out more than new innovations in beauty. The past few weeks I have been testing out the new Sonicblend Antimicrobial Sonic Makeup Brush from Michael Todd; the cutting-edge way of applying your makeup utilising sonic technology. Keep on reading to hear my thoughts on this clever device.

The Sonicblend is the first of its kind makeup brush to use sonic technology to apply makeup. Better than rotating makeup brushes, the Sonicblend applies makeup flawlessly at up to 400 micro-movements per second.

The Sonicblend sweeps on foundation, blush, contour, highlight, setting powder and bronzer without lines or streaks for natural looking airbrushed-like results every time. It provides better coverage so you need less makeup.

PLUS, the Sonicblend comes with built in protection against microbial contamination so the brushes stay cleaner, fresher longer. How clever is that?!

The Sonicblend can also help improve the overall healthy look of your complexion by minimizing the possibility of clogging pores as well as irritation from rubbing and stretching the skin which can occur with traditional makeup application.

This brush comes with three speed settings for customisable makeup application, a rechargeable lithium battery that runs continuously for 60 minutes, and a detachable brush head that allows for ease of cleaning as well as for interchangeable heads.

I used the brush to apply both powder and cream/liquid products, and surprisingly found it to work well for both!

I used the brush for my entire regular base makeup routine for several weeks. First, I used it to apply my foundation and concealer, and found that a slight learning curve as I am used to using a sponge (which absorbs some product), so I had to reduce the amount of product I was applying, as the brush wasn't absorbing anything. After I worked that out I find the brush helped spread the product evenly out on my skin, and looked great (with zero streaking and smearing). I then used it to blend out my cream contour, which blended it out quickly and naturally, with no muddiness. Using it for cream contour is actually my favourite way of using this brush! I used this to apply my powder highlighter, bronzer and blush, and found it to blend it out more quickly, and easier than with a normal brush, and without any patchiness. As it is quite a dense brush though, it is important you are careful how much product you pick up on your brush before going in and applying to your face.

The brush has a vibrating sensation, and kind of feels like a massage on your face. I quite enjoy it. I also like that the head detaches from the base of the brush, allowing you to easily clean it.

I really like the Sonicblend brush so far; particularly to apply my foundation, and blend my cream contour. I would recommend it!

You can pick up Michael Todd's Sonicblend Makeup Brush from Michael Todd Beauty for $103 AUD.

  1. This looks cool! I'm waiting for the clarisonic makeup brush head to launch over here so I don't have to pay up for the entire device but I have a feeling if it takes much longer I might just have to grab one of these.
