Ever since my teen years, I have dabbled with almost every single hair removal method out there, in the quest to rid myself of unwanted body hair. I have tried waxing, shaving, sugaring, sand-papering, plucking, depilatory creams, threading, and other crazy methods, but hadn't tried epilating until lately. I recently got my hands on the new Remington Smooth and Silky Ultimate Cordless Wet/Dry Epilator and wanted to share my thoughts (from one hairy person to another!)
Firstly, what is epilating?
An epilator is an electrical device used to remove hair by mechanically grasping multiple hairs simultaneously and pulling them out, much like waxing. It looks a tad scary at first, spinning with all of the tweezer like ends that pluck the hair out. However, you quickly get used to it, and I don't find it intimidating at all anymore.

This device is so handy, because it features not only the epilator attachment, but also a shaver head with dual trimmers, a rotating exfoliating head for all over body exfoliation, a callus remover for soft feet. It also contains attachments to help with exfoliation including a perfect angle cap for optimal tweezing angle, a precision cap for facial detailing and smaller areas, massage cap with aloe vera to reduce discomfort, and a removable bikini comb for shaver head. All of these extras plus the main device fit in a provided carry bag, making this excellent for travelling.
I have been using the Remington Epilator on my legs for around a month now, and I am enjoying it. At first, I was scared to take the plunge and test it out, due to the pain factor. I have to say that it is definitely the most uncomfortable the first time you use it, and it hurts less the more you use it, as you get used to the sensation/ you have less hair to be ripped out. I find that I get small red dots on my legs after I use the epilator, so I recommend epilating of a night, so the bumps have had a chance to go before the morning.
I definitely have found it more effective than I thought it would be. It definitely is more time consuming than shaving, both with the actual process, but also with the need to regularly exfoliate to prevent ingrown hairs. However, the long term results are definitely better than using a razor! The hair takes longer to grow back, and I am told that if I persevere, hairs will decrease in frequency and be finer in appearance.
I prefer to use the epilator dry, while I am watching tv, as distraction is a great tool for reducing discomfort. I find that after use, my legs feel super smooth and soft, and it is great to not get such spiky hair when the hair regrows (as you do with shaving). I use it around once a week, so I maintain smooth legs, but hope to reduce the frequency I need to use it in the future.
I will continue to use the Remington Epilator to see what my long term results are, and I also love the extra attachments that are included, as they make this a great travelling companion.
I would recommend this device for those looking for a hair removal solution that gives longer results than traditional methods such as shaving.
